In what is considered one of the more alluring places to live in the region, the City of Blue Ash is located roughly 20 minutes from Downtown Cincinnati. Blue Ash has a welcoming mixture of small-town charm for locals with top-notch amenities for those visiting the area or working for one of the city’s major employers, all of whom enjoy the quaint community with comfortable access to the bigger metropolitan area nearby.

Located in Hamilton County, Blue Ash has a population of more than 12,100 residents; it was originally settled in 1791. Eight years later, in 1797, the settlers constructed the Carpenter’s Run Baptist Church using blue ash logs. Historians say these blue ash logs are the origin of the town’s name.

By the late 1800s, the Cincinnati, Lebanon, and Northern Railway extended a commuter rail service to the city. Also, from 1921 to 2012, Blue Ash was home to the Cincinnati-Blue Ash Airport, which was a private airfield purchased in 1946 by the City of Cincinnati. The airport was the first such municipal airport in the state.

During the 1950s, the City of Cincinnati tried several times to expand the airport for major commercial services. This was opposed successfully by members of the Blue Ash community, who were able in 1955, to incorporate Blue Ash into a village for a few years. Then, in 1961, Blue Ash officially earned its designation as a city.

In more recent times, the City of Cincinnati developed the surrounding land into a golf course and industrial park. On Aug. 29, 2012, the city closed the airport and the property was sold to the City of Blue Ash, which turned the property into what is now known as Summit Park.

Blue Ash hosts two major annual events during the summer; the first is the “Red, White, and Blue Ash” which is the largest fireworks show in the region; the other is the “Taste of Blue Ash.” These events attract major rock bands to perform.
